Once You Awaken

Rise and shine. Call it an optical illusion, but the surest way to look and feel slimmer is to stand taller. Skip your grandmother’s trick of balancing books on the head and attempt morning yoga instead. “In general, yoga enables you to stand taller and think that there’s extra space in your body,” says Tara Stiles, a The Big Apple-based yoga instructor and author of Slim Calm Sexy Yoga. Stand facing a wall and set your right arm in front of you, palm flat in the wall. Keeping your palm from the wall, turn your whole body, together with your feet on the left up until you will go no farther. Hold for thirty seconds. Repeat on the opposite side. You’ll stretch out your pectoralis minor, muscle that connects your breastbone for the within the shoulder, which when tight causes the shoulders to round.
