Menopause marks the time in a lady’s life when she stops...

Menopause marks the time in a lady’s life when she stops menstruating and is not able to become pregnant. This is a normal part of life one of the milestones that women go through like puberty. Even though it is the time when a lady will get her last periods the signs and symptoms may appear years before it actually happens. Some women experience the symptoms for a few months or even some years afterwards. Experts say that a woman will tell you that they have gone through menopause if they do not get periods for 2 months. Symptoms may become worse when a lady experiences menstruation suddenly. Most symptoms normally last for a couple of-5 years before they disappear. Some of the symptoms that women may face include

Irregular periods

One of the main symptoms of menopause has irregular periods. This is where the menstrual pattern changes. There are some ladies who may get their periods every 2 or 3 weeks while others will not get it for several months.

Estrogen levels drop

Another symptom that ladies face when they are going through menopause is lowered fertility. This is because the estrogen levels normally drop significantly where chances of becoming pregnant become quite slim.

Hot flashes

There are some women who experience hot flashes as part of symptoms of menopause. This is a sudden feeling of heat that is experienced in the upper part of the body. It could start hard, chest or even neck and then spreads either downwards or upwards depending on where it originated from. The skin around the chest, neck and face may become red or even patchy and the lady begins to sweat. The heat rates most of the time increase suddenly and it may become stronger or irregular than the normal palpitations. These generally happen during the first year after the lady has had her final period.

Internal dryness

Common symptoms of menopause also include internal dryness. It may be accompanied by discomfort and/or itching. There are some ladies who might experience some sought of pain during intimacy. Most ladies are usually not comfortable talking about this thus they do not seek medical attention for the symptom. Many women who experience this also experience loss of libido.

Disturbed sleep

There are other ladies who might experience lack of sleep as they undergo menopause. Sleep disturbances may be caused by a number of factors such as anxiety or insomnia. As the lady goes through menopause, staying asleep and falling asleep also becomes a problem. Most of the time, this is also accompanied by night sweats. These are actually hot flashes that happen during the night. Most women however confirm that this only happens for a few minutes.

UTI’s

Other symptoms of menopause include recurring Bladder Infections (UTI’s) like cystitis. Some ladies at this time feel the need to frequent and urgently pass urine.

Moodiness

Most of the women who are going through menopause also experience moodiness. Experts say that this is normally caused by the lack of sleep. This is where the lady may not seem interested in anything that is going on around them and may end up arguing things that do not really need any arguments. You may also find that the lady wants to be left alone most of time.

Problems learning and focusing

Some ladies may also experience difficulties in focusing and learning because of short term memory problems. They may find it quite challenging to concentrate on something for a long period of time.

More fat in the abdomen

It is not uncommon to see some ladies who are going through menopause add some weight even when they have not changed their diet in any way. Most of the time, this fat normally builds up around the abdominal area.

Thinning hair

It is also common to see ladies who are going through losing hair. Hair starts out by thinning and it may finally fall out after some time. Most women try to cover this up by trying various styles that cover up the fact that the hair is thinning out.

Loss of breast size

In addition to the above symptoms of menopause, there are some ladies whose breasts may become smaller as they go through menopause.

Headaches

There are some ladies who might also experience frequent headaches while going through menopause.
